The all-weather masonry construction provides a textured surface that these fascinating birds can grasp easily. Since it has no standard perches, the larger, more aggressive birds are not around to disturb them. The acorn cap slides up the galvanized wire hanger for easy refilling and cleaning. Stainless steel woven mesh holds the seeds in place until the birds pull them out. Black-oil sunflower seeds or sunflower hearts are recommended, or a commercial seed mix that contains a sufficient amount of sunflower seeds.
